Actor Kevin Costner wears Shuron Ronsir Zyl browline glasses in the 1991 classic movie JFK.

Kevin Costner plays New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison, who takes it upon himself to investigate the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.

The exact color of the Shuron glasses that Kevin Costner is wearing is Ebony, and the temples are the Slipper style. The Ronsirs come in lots of different colors and temple styles. It is said that you can make more than 2000 different size/color/temple combinations of these glasses!

The Ronsirs are one of the more significant frame designs of the 20th century. They were the first ever combination frame featuring plastic tops on metal rims with plastic temples and were developed in 1947 by Jack Rohrbach, Shuron's vice president at the time. The frame became a best seller, especially in America, that started a design trend that ultimately affected almost half of all frames sold during the 1950's. Shuron sold more than 17 million of them by 1970. The glasses are also know as "Browline" glasses, which is derived from the fact that the bold upper part of the frames frame the lenses in the same way that eyebrows frame the eyes.

Browline glasses became standard equipment for costume designers that want to create that retro "G-Man" / 50's / NASA look in a movie. The glasses can be seen in almost every movie that is set in America in the 1950s and 1960s, for example Bobby and The Good Shepherd. More recently the frames can be spotted in Armored. Other celebrities that can be seen with these types of glasses include Malcolm X, Michael Douglas in Falling Down and Mr. Orange in Reservoir Dogs (altough these last ones were Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses).

Recently clip-ons were made available by Shuron to turn these eyeglasses into sunglasses.
